Special Project: Malaysian News Aggregator

Negaraku

I’m very busy at the moment. Nonetheless, I always make time for my hobby.

Negaraku! was born to express my frustration in displaying feeds (RSS). I have 3 ways of reading feeds, GoogleReader, FeedDemon & Newzie. Every one of them has their own selling point. Somehow I find it inadequate as my appetite to read grew bigger.

Negaraku

Negaraku! is table-less and database-less. The mammoth driving it is just a file. (Of course that doesn’t include pages and javascript files). Aimed to be minimal and gentle for the elderly.

Anyway, the project is far from complete. Some pages are still missing, and some remained buggy. You can see the demo here. Beta Stage is here, at http://negaraku.net

Feel free to suggest me the following

  1. Usability. Is it easy for you?
  2. Design. Is it simple enough? Color not too bright etc.
  3. The domain name. Now don’t be buying domains, I wont buy it from you.
  4. Currently considering akhbar, negaraku or newstand (.com, .net, etc)
  5. Add Malaysian blogs (but only credible ones, playfulness not allowed)

Go for a spin! It won’t break, because it’s already broken 😮

ps: Bong & Cibol, sorry la gang. Lain kali bagitau awal2 sikit 😡

usability is good, easy to navigate. the arrangements are neat . the design is simple. good use of colours and font. i believe that the flag could be used in a more creative way. except of course, if you want to keep it simple. all in all, it’s a good design.

and, my blog definitely falls under ‘playful’ so there’s no chance to be there. 😥 hahaha. 😛
takkan org minat politics, esp the elderly nak baca blog i kot. hahah. ➡ silap2, my dad yg baca my blog. oh tidak!

Aisyah’s last blog post..Stop Calling Him ‘Abang’

by playful I meant someone who writes with using unimaginable language, casually. Yours is ok. But dad would see it right? Hahaha.

I plan to add all the blogs in Malaysia (but that would be tough)

Kudos to you for embarking on something unprecedented in scale and looking very challenging to me! You’ve definitely invested a lot of time and effort into making the whole site work, and the best thing is that it’s not broken at all! Everything is working perfect over there, like clockwork  thumbs up for everything you’ve done!

The layout is exceptionally clean and elegant! I don’t know whether you’re going to introduce advertisements into the site, but text ads will be great since it will go along very well with the content. I love the incorporation of the Flickr feeds into the site, and you’re right about it – photos are equally interesting and appealing as well!

How is it far from complete? It’s working so perfectly that it can just be there and wait for visitors 🙂 heheh! Again, I would really want to thank you for doing every Malaysian blogger a huge favour! 😆

Of course Teddy, I wouldn’t be adding the feeds by myself. I’ll probably have a form to do that. On a smaller scale, I should think how to get more traffic in.

Dont be modest. Your blog also suggest you spent a HELL-LOT of time tweaking it.

Advertisement? Well, definitely not from NuffNang nor Google Ads. I want Small business or Start ups to advertise.

Current stage 60%. Many2 tweaks to go. Also I need a house(domain) for it, which I have no idea.. what to name it.

ermm.. bukan pasal tulisan/logo..
Tapi header punya design.
But yeah.. maybe u should keep it simple..
p/s: X reti nak comment sgt sebenarnya,, 🙄

Don’t worry about traffic – the site is so good it can command attention by itself 🙂 just let your friends spread the word, teehee.

Anyway, you’re the one who’s being very modest and humble here 😀 I don’t spend a lot of time tweaking my theme, and I’ve never tried creating lovely smilies for WordPress (and to make it sweeter, it’s free of charge, you’re so nice!) as well as designing user-friendly WordPress themes. I wish I could be half that good!

Regarding the domain thing… are you going to host it on a local server or a foreign one?

teddY’s last blog post..I’ve got a creativity boost – guess what?

Traffic wise aside. Still too early to worry about that.

I have no gf (no pun intended), hence I utilize my time by learning something new everyday. Whatever I learn, I try to make it beneficial for others 😉

Probably on local hosting. Foreign is good, but what if something like an earthquake or banned IP happened? That’s a tough call.

Mind me telling me how fast is it loading for you?

It’s loading fine for me, although the Streamyx I’m using is famous of giving me around 60% of the promised bandwidth. Ah, my corporation cynicism is working up early in the morning again…

Yea it will be great if it’s hosted on a local server! During the Taiwan earthquake last year which snapped a handful of precious trans-Pacific cables, almost every website slowed to a crawl except for mine (since mine was hosted locally) as well as a few Malaysian-hosted blogs 😀 that’s another benefit besides convenient payment (my host accepts cheques, bank-ins, transfers and etc, foreign hosts usually only stick to credit card and paypal). And if anything happens, you can literally kick up a big fuss at their office since it’s usually within driving distance at Putrajaya or Cyberjaya, lol!

Your attitude gets a lot of respect from me! Sharing is something very noble and yet not everyone wants to do it – people will think that why should they provide services for free if they can milk some cash out of it? Thanks again for being a wonderful ‘sharer’. Internet isn’t called one without sharing, that’s why what it’s here for – to spread information.

Sorry for spamming NH, but that half-awake, zombie-like, post-morning me keeps forgetting to write something in my previous comment.

Perhaps Negaraku.com will be a great domain name, but obviously somebody has parked the domain (ie, there’s no site hosted on that domain, but it’s under ownership). So does for Negeraku.com.my 😥 However, good news is that Negaraku.net is still available 🙂

I like! Simple layout and easy to browse around. But I clicked on NST online and was redirected to their page. All links not ready for the lightbox I suppose? 😛

melbie’s last blog post..Earth Hour

All links ARE lightbox. but these newspaper company, sometimes too techie. They removed any codes not from their site upon loading. Hence removed the iframe tag.

NST still ok. The Star is the one giving problem, so is MalaysiaKini

i commented already, tapi tak keluar? 😥 letih type panjang-panjang hahaha!

i love negaraku.net! very cool and neat. love the design and arrangements. quite fast loading as well. now i know where to get my daily doses of virtual pills.. great job bro!! support negaraku.net! i already put up the banner at my blog.
