I bought these fabrics at Nagoya and I’m never going back there. Why? The Chinese guy there are so stingy. I wanted canvas material, but the cloth was a bit dirty. Generally, textile stores will give you an additional 1/2 meter to compensate for the dirty part. This guy told me to go home and wash it. Fuck you man. So we walked away.

Anyway, I got the tiny polka dotted and some rough cotton. My advise, buy non-slippery fabric because you wouldn’t want to let your laptop slips off your hand.

1. Cutting the fabric. I prefer mine snugged so it’s a hard to slip off the sleeve. I left at least an inch for every side so it’ll be easier for beginners like me to sew. (That’s my wife’s hand btw)

2. Sew a “U” shape for both fabric, except one, sew double “L” shape leaving holes at the bottom, so you can flip it once you’re done.

3. Cut the edges so that it’ll form a sharp corner.

4. Flip “U” shape so that the right side faces each other.

5. Slip the flipped one into the other.

6. Sew the end together. Make sure you don’t overlap, otherwise you’ll have to do all over again. I assure you that can be frustrating.

7. Remember the hole of the “L” shape? Carefully pull the inside fabric out.

8. The last part, sew the holes using the ladder stitch. (Such manly arm! Hahhaa)

9. Flip the inside out to make sure the reversible sleeve works.

Now it fits well into my bag along with my other red stuff. The possibility of getting a scratch from keys is reduced. Job well done.

The story begins last night, I got home at 12 am and told my sleepy wife, “I want to learn to sew a laptop sleeve”. She helped me through the process and showed me how to operate a sewing machine. The rest was history. I made one complete sleeve in one hour. Not bad for a noob eh?

Presently, Yamaha Malaysia manufactures the XJ6 Diversion. This is the one with fairings and seriously it looks rather timid for a super bike. A super bike has to be aggressive looking. In a semi-crotch position waiting to attack, unfortunately, Diversion lacks that.

So to start off, they hosted a Blogger Sports Carnival. Which is awesome! It promotes health and explores new activities.

I’m not the type that really likes to suck up to NN or any organization, but credit given to where it’s due. They did an excellent job at managing it. The turn out was really a friendly bunch, more like the usual people (since they’re casual amongst themselves).

They also have pool table, but pool for me is like meh. I like golf

Driving range mode. I am amazed at the golf simulator actually. It uses IR sensors to detect the flight of the ball. I even tried throwing the ball at the screen and it did calculate the distance. Was seriously flabbergast!

The briefing for the games. They have 4 games in total, pool, darts, longest drive and nearest to pin. Longest drive is hitting the ball as far as you could while nearest to pin is anyone closes to the hole.

I did my longest drive. For the closes to pin, I did initially trump the crowd but as the game progressed someone beat me to it. Guess I’m just not that lucky. I kinda felt disoriented, playing on the green is way different than hitting a screen.

The flirty girl also gave it a try. Honestly, she looked like a makcik trying to mow her garden with a scythe but in heels.

My office floor also has a pool table, but I suck at it so bad it makes me puke!

The ranking for longest drive. I wasn’t kidding when I told people I could hit 270m.

The prize is an hour lesson with that guy I was trying to slap.

Rizman won the closest to the pin. I think we used to play rugby together. His prize is test drive any BMW from the dealer for the weekend! Matilah bayar minyak bro hahaha.

Just in case you want to know the price per hour. Not that expensive really.

On the way back we (me and ‘aheem’, the flirty girl) bumped into my MD and his wife. He asked, so this is your fiance? Hahaha I guess I had to nod in agreement. Yes the girl is my fiance who’s been flirting ever since I got the longest drive

My MD is one cool guy, he’s insanely smart, tall like a pillar and takes interest to know people. It’s the reason why I don’t leave my company despite offered twice my salary.

Back to NuffNang sports event, next up. Let’s do wall climbing! It’s damn fun and a real test of manhood. They should categorize man/woman and weight. I think I fit in heavy weight, I have huge ass!

On Thursday I had the luxury of watching Green Lantern with my fiance. The commotion around was so immense, I find it hard to resist. Plus it’s Ryan Reynold, a legend in Van Wilder and Blade Trinity. And yes, this is a spoiler.

IMDB rated 6.6/10. Personally anything above 6 is to watch at cinema. Somehow I find it otherwise.

Truth be told, the movie was not paced properly. Sometimes it’s too slow, and sometimes it’s too fast. Just when the story peaked, it got cut off. It’s like doing yourself but stopped half way through. Where’s in the pleasure in that?

The fighting scene was rather boring. I think I have a better imagination than that! The hero was quick to win and never really endured hardship like Rocky 3, where he lost a friend, unfit but trained himself in a woodshed and won the fight against Russian crowds. I gotta admit, new superheroes are sooo emotionally attached, it did occur to me, super heroes so weak-minded meh?

When we walked out of the cinema, I told AR, they should just rename the movie to Green Lame. I was fighting against dozing off not only once, not twice but thrice! Watching the makcik’s reaction when Green Lantern was beating the crap out of the villain was even more thrilling.

I guess it’s the kind of expectations you anticipated. But if you have the bandwidth, go download a Green Lantern animation. I assure you find it more amusing than this.

For this movie, I give a 5/10.

What I don’t get, how can being afraid or fear be a source of power? Lame… Ryan Reynold had no choice, I guess it’s due to his terrible divorce to Scarlett. Nevertheless, still is amongst my fave star, minus this movie of course.

Immediately in my hand, it feels heavy. Heavy is good, it’s solid! (About 200 gram.)

The HTC Desire Z built quality is not what it used to be. They’ve come a long way to improve this baby. I know I’d be overselling if I say this, but I can’t help myself telling you that it’s the best HTC qwerty based I’ve held so far! It spots a combination of brushed metal and high grade plastics for it’s trim, it gives slight professional look.

I used to own a Sony Ericsson Xperia x1, I sold it off because I hated the keypad. It was metal, hard to press, overall it feels annoying. Quite the opposite for HTC Desire Z, the keypad is well raised, made of rubber (so you won’t slip) and properly spaced. For a common resistive screen user, I tend to use my nails to type. So no exception here. The input is very fast. It won’t lag for a few seconds and fill your screen with typo (like Windows Mobile).

The right side of the phone lies the USB port and volume controller. The USB port is used to charge and all so transfer data to computer. Let’s just hope the USB port does get loose easily.

At the top, Power button and audio 3.5mm jack. Nicely positioned audio jack. I believe all device now should have audio jack built at the top. It’s easier to pull in and out of your pocket. (I doubt I’d lugged HTC Desire Z to jog with me).

The right side has the trigger for camera and release toggle for battery access.

I won’t bother to put the dimension to it’s milimeter. Because if I did, you’ll need to pull out a ruler and imagine its’ size. So I placed it next to one of the best selling Nokia phone with more than 100 million shipped worldwide, the Nokia 5800. So if you have one, or your grandma or cat, you can borrow them for a few minute just to imagine the size of HTC Desire Z.

As seen, although built with qwerty keypad, it’s a lot thinner than Nokia 5800. Probably 2/3 of the Nokia. (sorry for the poor quality photo, not enough light).

Out of the box, the HTC Desire Z comes with an ear piece, 3-pin connector, USB to power converter, the USB cable, HTC Desire Z (duh!), 1300 mAh battery and if you’re lucky, along with 8 Gb microSD.

Now back the main question, is it an object of desire? Sadly, based on its’ physical appearance, I’d have to say I’m on the fence leaning towards desire. The look is similar to Nexus One but with keypad. Coupled with brushed metal, I’d feel like I’ll be scratching it any day. But hands down, the build quality is sturdy and solid. It looks like it can take the beating for 2-3 years.

To tell you the truth, I only have desire towards sexy models and car, not a phone.

I’ve been toying with Android phone for years but never actually use one on daily basis. So I have no idea what kind of burden will be latched onto a light/business user. All I know is a phone is just a phone, to make call and send text messages. Beyond that, it’ll be something of unnecessity.

I’ll be taking you through my experience as a light mobile phone user. By definition of light, I meant the following;

1. Make calls no more than 15 per day with an average of 3 minutes per call
2. Text messages no more than 30 per day (excluding gf)
3. Browse 3-4 times a week
4. Social networking, once a day
5. Never check email through phone
6. Navigation 2-3 times a week
7. Charging phone every 2 days
8. Using phone for wake-up-go-to-work-lazy-dude!
9. Games, only when bored

So let’s hope by the end of the two weeks review, the HTC Desire Z will be something I can’t live without!

Pick Up at Maxis Tower!

We took the phone at 630 pm at Menara Maxis, next to KLCC. After being briefed, we were each handed the HTC Desire Z. Initial response was, I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE I’M HOLDING ONE!

We were also told why each and everyone of us were chosen to do the review. Apparently mine was, “Your English is very good. You sure know how to write well. And you’re also known to be very honest.” I’m unsure about the first two, but I second the last bit. Hehehe. “Brutally honest”, I added.

Before I jump to the next inline, let me reiterate my photography background. I had Pentax SLR back in the 90′s and have never bought a digital camera, never. I’ve experienced (shot at least 50 photos) using Sony A300, Sony A700, Canon 450D, Nikon D5000, Nikon D90, Nikon D700 and Nikon D3. And I did one wedding photoshoot (it was tiring as hell).

Initially, I was planning on getting the Sony A55 SLT. But when I held it, it feels cheap and too small for my hands (my hand isn’t huge). To sum up, it feels a bit girly and awkward (the viewfinder is LCD not optical like normal dSLR). The video feature caught most of my intention and it costs, RM 2,400.

I didn’t want to settle for Sony A55, so I moved to Canon 550D. It was highly rated in dpreview, however it was still considered a beginners dSLR (Canon’s market target). I don’t want to outgrow my camera easily as the buttons, weight and overall feels simplified. Truly for beginners or upgrading from Point and Shoot.

The comes the Canon 60D. It was out of budget at RM 3,300, but somehow I can learn to close an eye for the piece of Japanese machinery.

Just to bore some of you, it’s 18.0 megapixels, APC-S sensor (pretty standard), full HD video, 5.3 frame per second shoot and 3 inch screen. What drew me closer to Canon was 3 factors.

1. My younger brother has sets of Canon lens and flash
2. I wanted a mid-range camera, not intention to outgrow the camera
3. If I buy lenses (or accessories), I can share with AR

At the moment I’m not too sure whether I’d venture in part time photography. I know it’s fun but can also be very tiring, weekdays full time, weekend part time. I’m sure it’ll pay handsomely.

As a Telco Business Analyst, my daily task is to read up on telco bits and pieces all day. Anything new, I’d be the first to figure out. That also includes white papers, case studies, crunching numbers and finding ways to enable telco. Aside from my work, I am what they call a cheap mobile phone user but that doesn’t mean you can’t squeeze money from me. So here’s how..

Entry Level Broandband

All over the telco atmosphere, the cheapest rate you can possibly get is RM 68 and that’s thru DiGi Smart Plan. But for me, RM 68 is too expensive. It’s not like I want to use Internet everyday on my mobile phone. The screen is too small to see anything. And seriously, who’d want to download a Dvd-rip movies onto their mobile? (this plan also does not include calls to other phone)

Then there’s the RM15 for a week by DiGi. Unfortunately, DiGi only offers this to prepaid users, when we all know that the ARPU* for prepaid user is averaged at RM50 per month and the biggest spender is the postpaid user, ARPU of RM 100 per month. So why focus on the 80% when the 20% of DiGi’s network user is ‘very keen’ on spending more? (ARPU – Average Revenue per User)

Too some extent, I am pretty upset when the RM15 deal is only for Prepaid users only. I mean, I want to spend, additional RM 20-30 per month on mobile broadband too. You know, to do my social obligations, facebook-ing, tweet-ing and foursquare-ing. And maybe sometimes, Google up things on the fly to appear smart.

Here’s a recap of DiGi’s available plan.

1. Smart Plan. RM 68 per month, unlimited data, not including calls etc.
2. Max5. RM 5 per day =RM 60 per month, but I don’t need unlimited data
3. Unlimited15. RM 15 per week, only for Prepaid.
4. iDiGi88. RM 60 per month, 200 minute, 20 sms & 1Gb download
5. Discover. RM 68 per month, needs laptop & modem 3Gb

Can you find the flaw? What about the likes of me? Someone who needs less that 100 Mb per month? Well, there’s always the on-the-go Internet, 10 sen per 10kb. But imagined if you fired up Google, that’s about 36kb so it’s 36 sen. When you search something, another 66kb. In the end, it’s gonna cost me RM 1 for 1 search. That’s pretty ridiculous don’t you think?

So here’s what I think is a new plan that DiGi can package to squeeze some juice out of moderate user like me.

Entry Level Plan – RM 10 per month for 150 Mb. Just nice to do some social thingy on the phone. Coupled that with DG50, it’ll be a prefect combo.

Through the DiGi’s Discover plan, RM68 is for 3Gb, therefore per Mb is 2.2 sen. So if I want 150 Mb it’ll cost me RM 3.3. But charging me at such a low rate is suicidal if not insane. I mean, you guys have to make quick bucks too right? What more being questioned by your share holder. So RM 10 for 150 Mb is reasonable (heck that’s 300%).

Assuming there are 1 million postpaid users and the take up rate is 15% based on your successful marketing campaign, that’ll bring DiGi revenue of RM 1.5 million a month. With such a good bargain, there’ll be more MNP-ing into DiGi network, not to mention Prepaid conversions to Postpaid. This is also inline with MCMC’s plan of 50% broadband penetration by end of Q4 2010.

So there you go DiGi, something smart from your consumer.

This is not a Hollywood movie, where you aim and fire at will. This is real lives we’re talking about. There are ethics to open fire and I believe it can only be used when the police’s life was at stake.

Reading and watching videos of the news brought a sudden fear within me. What is the police interest? Was the police man fucking drunk? Was that 15 year old boy so fucking lethal that they had to brought him down? What was his mistake? No driving license?

Picture this, you’re on your way back home from teh tarik and all of a sudden, the police starts shooting at you. What would you do? You’d probably contemplate, to hit the police, speed up or stop. Most of us would probably stop. But for that boy’s case, he had no license, so I guess he sped off.

What ever it is, I hope the shooting police man gets a life sentence. It’s because bad seeds like him, the police force’s integrity is at jeopardy. Fucking retard!

Malaysiakini: Aminulrasyid or Malaysiakini.TV

As I was holding the door for others, a pakcik came marching and ran into my back. I was sandwiched to the wall. I didn’t want to scold him for his rough behavior. I’ll let him slide. (Control high blood konon).

The car was considerably packed, everyone fought for their space. It would definitely be a mess if someone farts. Thank God, nothing exotic happened.

The door slowly opened, the same pakcik pushed everyone aside, being selfish as ever making his way out.

This pakcik needs some schooling. Allow me to introduce some anarchy here.

I held his bag and let everyone passed. Everytime he asked me to let go, I pretended not to hear and kept my grip firmer. One hand on top of the other.

Ko ni apehal? Kurang ajar ke? He yelled at me.

Lain kali, kalau nak cepat keluar, masuk last sekali. Itu pon tak reti ke? I replied.

Too me, it doesn’t matter if you’re an old fart or a hot girl with a pierced tongue. Just as long as you know how to respect others. Here’s an example.

There I was, doing 90kmh taking my sweet time over taking cars on the fastest lane. Until I saw an Orange MyVi, I slowed down. There were 2 girls inside the car and I’m not sure they’re hot or not. It was dark and obviously I had to focus on driving.

The driver’s door wasn’t properly shut, so I honked them, worrying of their safety.

I honked again. Raising my hand, trying to get some attention. She looked at me and pretended she didn’t see me.

The third time I honked, she raised her hand as if refusing to communicate. WTF?

Eventhough I am driving a souped-up Gen2 with nasty looks and peeled paints, doesn’t mean I’m trying to get girls on the road! What more while driving! Obviously I know a better technique to get a girl’s number. Shessh. Perasan gile ok!

Down-shifted and sped back to chase the traffic.

It left me puzzled for minute there. Here I am, concerned about their safety while they tried hard to refuse my good-will gesture.

It’ll probably be too late to tell her, “I told you so”, when she’s thrown out of her car.

It was raining heavily, coupled with strong winds and thunderous clouds. The visibility was almost close to zero. We were heading down south back to our home from Penang. There was my newly wed brother and his wife, my youngest brother and me, riding in the car, ridiculing the possibilities of the ‘WTF’ car plate number. (Seriously, there are, maybe soon.)

I’ve never liked the ESP built into Mercedes. In fact, I’ve wrote about it before. But there were pot holes everywhere, a perfect culprit for Hydro Planing, I had no choice but to turn it on.

As we strolled along the highway, things got pretty worst. The wind was blowing in our direction. Raindrops were knocking on the windscreen, making infinite annoying thumping sound. Even the wiper couldn’t keep up wiping the screen. I decided to slow down and cruise at 80kmh on the fastest lane.

A Toyota Altis was following our trail, roughly 15 meters behind.

We ran into a huge pot hole, thanks to ESP, the car’s computer calculated and stabilized us almost instantaneously. I knew, I saw and felt it but I was dead sure the car behind couldn’t endure the hydro planing.

I looked at my rear view mirror and saw something terrible. The Altis spunned 900° degrees ( that’s two and a half spin) whilst bouncing and knocking the road divider. The Altis ended up facing the traffic flow on the fastest lane! Shit! It was a critical moment. I certainly don’t want to see other cars run into that Altis, what more see someone die before my eyes.

I pulled over immediately and asked my sis in law to call for help, while my brother and I rushed to the victim. We grabbed an umbrella and ran as fast as we could, barging into the heavy pours.

There were 3 passengers in the Altis, Driver – slightly aged, his wife and young adult son. The car looked completely wrecked. Fortunately, they had airbags. But still, that doesn’t solve what’s coming next, incoming cars.

“Boy, help them to get out while I go slow down the traffic”, I had to shout to my brother, the sound of rain knocking the ground pretty much blocked our hearing. I ran about 50 meters down the road.

Thankfully, the umbrella we had was yellow, which made it easier to see and signal people to slow down. There I was, on the fastest lane, waving the umbrella up and down, not knowing what’s coming next. Will incoming cars see me? Will they slow down? Worst, will they run me over? I have to admit my balls pretty much shrunk to the size of peanuts. But I toughen it out, we’re dealing with lives here, rest aside fears and be brave!

(For a moment there, I felt like Mary Poppins, but that’s a different story altogether. )

Our call for help came was minutes later. A police car and a highway patrol arrived. They pulled out Orange safety cones and flags. My job here is done. Next is to get the passengers somewhere safe, i.e. on the roadside.

Fortunately, the passengers were ok. No broken bones nor tragic condition, only bruises and gushes and most definitely, traumatized. (Who wouldn’t after staring death straight in the face?)

We made it safely on the road side few seconds later.

As I was heading back to the car, I looked back and saw the driver, soaked and drenched in the rain (his wife and son shared their only umbrella). I walked back to him and handed mine, knowing that he’ll be standing there, looking at his car, replaying the incident for a while longer. And it certainly breaks my heart to see that  slight bald aged man mourning over his loss or thinking what might’ve happened.

When all this is done with, police reports has been lodged, insurance has been claimed and everyone sitting at the comfort of their home, that man will look at the yellow Michelin umbrella and remembers, that 2 courageous strangers helped him. And I hope one day, he returns the favor, Act of Random Kindness.

4 is close to being correct, but actually I ate 5 pieces! Back in MCKK days, I usually buy 1 whole chicken for myself alone during weekend outings. Stuffed everything just before rugby training (in the evening). I could feel the chicken bouncing up and down as I conquer the field. Funny, I don’t feel like puking (maybe because I enjoy running in the great blue sky of Kuala Kangsar).
