Emo, A New Dawn of Music?

I’m sure many of you have spot emo bands like Dashboard Confessional, Second Hand Serenade, My Chemical Romance etc. I’m a big fan myself (but I don’t Google artist out of curiosity, I just don’t).

For me, emo existed way before I was let out into this world, the early 80’s.

And Wiki confirmed (or rather agrees) with my hypothesis, Emo is actually from that era and not late 90’s. That explains why I’m easily swept off my feet when listening the old tune. And I thought I’m old fashioned.

Gersang - Luka Lagi

Correction to younger generations: Gersang means deserted, not horny.

I guess it’s true what they say; To move forward, sometimes you need to go backwards.

ps: Tight schedule ahead! I’m missing my daily coffee dose.

The Toyol for Exam

It’s exam fever. I’d like to wish juniors good luck for the exam, and most definitely the result.

Yesterday, I bought an All-In-One printer (AiO). It’s been ages since I sought for one. The last one was BCJ-2000SP, a very famous Canon model. It’s still working but I never liked the way it’s oddly shaped, prone to collect dust.

So anyway, I started clearing out my desk to make room for the new found love. I scanned my old notes in the process.

Control System, year 2 Engineering, only 4 pieces of paper. I couldn’t find my ‘toyol’ a.k.a. cheat sheet. It’s only 1 page summing everything above.

FAQ:

  1. Did your gf write them for you? No.
  2. It’s so small, can you read it? Yes.
  3. Did anyone make a copy? I think so.
  4. Did you score the subject? No. I overslept and missed the exam
  5. Why do you choose to compress the notes? Less is more, more is less, more or less.
  6. The main reason to short hand your note. To save trees and be a cheapskate.
  7. Exam’s over, why don’t you throw it away? I spent hours writing this, do you think I’ll let it go to waste?
  8. Then go recycle! No. The memories intact is priceless.
  9. How old is the notes? 6 years.

I’m glad I’m through with engineering, I didn’t like it in the first place.

ps: Not going to blog about my niece. It’ll only invite the get-married-lah-eddie! in me.

Don’t Meddle with Fatwa

The latest sizzling fatwa we have is “Pengharaman Pengkid” and “Pengharaman Yoga“. A few blogs have already published their thoughts on this matter, therefor, it’s my liberty to defend my stand.

Mosque Kuala Kangsar

Before I delve further into this topic, I suggest you read ImamKhalid’s explanation on mufti. I will not echo mufti’s role to prove my point.

When muftis agreed to ban pengkid and yoga, everyone wants a piece of the shattered glass. Truth is, you are meddling with Islam and you have no rights to tell me anything unless you’re huffing my grass.

If you’re a Chinese, you do not want to be sweeping the house during Chinese New Year (it’s like shoo-ing luck), similarly, if you’re a Hindu, it’s wrong to eat cow’s meat. Both are equally questionable. But your views may differ depending on ‘what’ you are.

Now my question, do you see us (Muslim) object these traditions/beliefs scrupulously? No. It’s your business and we respect that.

For Malaysians, race has always been a sensitive issue. Any distinctive odor of racist will surely ignite their subconscious genes. However, religion is a few pitch higher.

You are free to question the role of NEP, English as education medium, ISA or why no Gardenia bread in Sabah. Anything but religion. Why can’t you? Because you do not understand what’s it like to be in this shoe. I’m not saying it’s a burden, but one must embrace a religion as a whole and not sikit-sikit to grasp the concept.

Unlike the PM, mufti’s words are final and is only subjected to Muslim. So please fellow Muslims, understand that, Fatwa exists not to suppress your freedom, but to distinguish between right and wrong. Like it or not, you have to accept it, even if you think it’s written by a pious nerd.

And to non-muslim, please hold your punches. You don’t want me to be fondling your ma and likewise.

ps: I may have raised my voice, I meant every single word.

Web Amenities and It’s Misfortune

Long ago when I started Negaraku! I wanted to fulfill my undying hunger for quality materials. It did at first. Now that it’s useful, it’s becoming a burden to manage entries.

Pancut

Another site to note, Friendster.com. If you happened to linger about the web a lot, you’ll notice there’s many vigilante booing the social networking site. It’s ok to whine about it’s downtime, but name callings and cursings? Wow, you’d do that after serving you for so many years? Did you pay for their services?

It’s like telling the Milo-man, who gives out free helpings to exhausted athletes, their chocolate drink looked like mixed stools. Yet, you ask for a second helping.

Read, FREE. Think a little will you?

I guess it’s true, we really like to exploit free services and use it to our advantage. Just look at our parks, public toilets, phone booth, just how bad it ’stinks’? They exist (with cost of course) to make your life easier. I’m not going to be your mom and grind you to bits about civics-mindedness. For once, please be sensible

So, any future Admin candidate for Negaraku! ? Let me know.

ps: Negaraku! is a U (general) rated site. Any obscene, bad stench and the likes will be removed without prior notice.

English for Science and Mathematics

“He said pupils had the option of answering the two subjects entirely in English, in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese/Tamil (mother tongue) or a combination of all three.” Alimuddin Md. Dom, TheStar

Quick question, why Chinese/Tamil is an option for UPSR?

Anyway I’m against this notion, English for Science and Math. This is a highly debatable topic. No right, no wrong, pure opinion. The aim here is to produce quality youngster who’ll one day thrive Malaysia.

English is THE lingua franca. If you don’t know English you can bid farewells to globalization. On the other hand, Bahasa Melayu is our National Language. Between these two, where you do stand? (more…)

Linked In, Thanks

Stop being humble, you are popular lah NH. My whole division reads your blog. In fact, I told them to.

Everytime someone tells me I’m popular, I’d deny as quickly as possible. It’s not an act of being humble, but to avoid deeper conversation into this petty matter. NH is a tale for my unborn kids of how their dad struggle and think during his early adulthood.

I have every reason to scared of popularity. For starters, you’ll have haters. KennySia has KennySai and DawnYang has her many lies. My hater will definitely be a Saint, he’ll be known as KomaPutih.

Popularity will eat one’s soul. The last thing I want to add to my attributes is snobbish. Although I can’t deny I am one, having more will disrupt the harmony of this shaken mind.

Ok, enough crap talking. Truth is, I’m honoured you took the time to read NH.

I feel kinda bad when people popularized me on their blog by putting up my url. Somehow I did not link them back. Not that I don’t appreciate, but I truly believe, if someone were to jump out of NH, I want them to land on a better blog. Not a crappy one that auto plays MP3 and takes forever to load.

For that reason alone, I ripped off the Lingo page and replaced with Linked. Adding links is my discretion. So please, no hair pulling is needed to be there.

Good Company Makes Time Fly

Like the usual, Friday night is about taking your time off the real world. It was a last minute thing, I managed to get a hold of Bongkersz and Aeropama for a teh tarik session.

I know you might think this is another geek hangouts, oh my, how so wrong of you. Our conversation was deep, cynical and anything for the betterment of the nation. The highly debatable topic was English as medium for Science and Math. Ok, you can say it’s rather geeky. (more…)
